Dave the Potter, or David Drake, was an artist, a potter, and a slave living in 19th century South Carolina. He is known for writing verse on the pots he created as well as signing his own name to them, at a time it was illegal to be literate as a black man. In honor of him, we will be painting our own verses on ceramic plates using stencils and paint pens.
